How to remove mold from your roof

Mold can be a dangerous health hazard for anyone who lives in a house with a roof. As mold grows, it releases spores into the air, which can cause allergic reactions to anyone breathing them in. If these spores are inhaled on a regular basis, they can cause chronic respiratory problems and even permanent brain damage. Mold also damages wood, which makes it more likely that a house fire will occur, which is why it’s important to have your roof cleaned of mold as soon as possible. So if you’re here reading this at this time, lucky you!

Mold can be found in many places around your house, but the place where most people never think to look is the roof.

With the right method and products, you can remove mold from your roof.

The first step is to find the source of the mold. Look at your gutters and air vents for leaks. If you don’t see any leaks, then it’s time to look inside your attic.

You should be prepared with some safety equipment before you go into your attic. The mold spores can cause respiratory problems, so a mask is essential. Safety goggles are also a good idea.

If you do find mold in your attic, then it’s time to get to work on cleaning it up. Remove all of the insulation and sheetrock that is affected by the mold. This is quite a process so for ease, you may contact Plusword Roofing as we offer professional services that will take out all of the mold and also make sure that there isn’t more mold spread out elsewhere in your attic that you might not have noticed yet.

When removing mold from a roof, be careful not to break any shingles or tear any portions of the outer layer of protection off of your home; otherwise water could get in and cause more damage.

Mold can also be removed by doing the following:

1. Use a soft brush or cloth to gently scrape off any dead mold or mold pieces that can be removed. Do not use a broom, which could cause the spores to become airborne and spread further in your attic.

2. Using a garden hose, spray the surface thoroughly with water. Allow the surface to dry completely before proceeding.

3. With a Plusworld recommended mold mix, spray each section with the mixture. Use a scrub brush and scrub if needed. Allow to sit for 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly with water using gentle pressure from a garden hose. If needed, repeat this step until all visible signs of mold growth have been eliminated.

Removing mold from your roof can be a tricky process, but it’s something you’ll want to do as soon as possible. If left alone and ignored, the mold can continue to spread, potentially leading to damage of your roof and even your home itself.
