The 1K schools project by Plusworld is our corporate investment platform aimed at collaborating with NGO’s, the private and public sector to renovate and restore 1000 dilapidated public school roofing systems across Nigeria in a five year period.
The school’s roofing system will be restored from its present condition to a more environmentally friendly and heat reflective roof. A reflective roof can help to reduce local air temperatures, lower energy use in buildings and reduce the strain on HVAC equipments.
The schools will be inspected to assess the level of deterioration to determine how having a heat reflective roof can significantly impact the school’s energy and carbon footprint.
This process is followed by repairing and maintaining the roof leaks and damages which are usually as a result of the following:
After the repair and maintenance, the roof will be pressure washed to get rid of dirt and dust to prepare the substrate to receive our highly effective Nutech paint which is a heat reflective coating that helps reduce energy use and the “urban island heat effect” around the school complex.
The urban island heat effect is a phenomenon that occurs when urban or metropolitan areas become significantly warmer than its surroundings due to human activities such as having too many dark roofs in a cluster. Our restoration program will provide the students with a cooler, conducive classroom and environment to study and play; and by restoring instead of replacing the roof, reduce the tonnes of roofing materials shipped to landfills and save up to 70% of the cost of a new roof which aligns with the overall philosophy of the “Plusworld Green Project” and the United Nations SDG on life on land.
The Young Restorers Hub also known as YORHUB is a social impact program (SIP) of Plusworld Limited; a roof specialist organization with restoration and maintenance at the heart of its operations.
We believe that we were created to impact our world and that we are responsible for our future and that of our communities. We are developing a sustainable restoration and maintenance culture in the youth and taking our survival as a species into our own hands
Raising a generation of young leaders who are driving the restoration, maintenance and climate change culture across the globe by deliberate behavioral and social engineering
YORHUB was born from the intense desire of Plusworld to:
YORHUB is open to young people in primary and secondary schools in Nigeria
YORHUB is open to all schools in Nigeria starting with Lagos state especially within disadvantaged communities like Ilaje, Makoko and Ajegunle
